Volunteering

There are plenty of volunteering opportunities in the correctional field, such as becoming a member of a board of directors, or a companion within an organization or a detention facility.

  • Volunteer within a board of directors

    Community organizations are managed by a board of directors made up of volunteers. Consult our list of member organizations to find which ones are in your region.

  • Volunteer as a companion in a detention facility or in the community

    Correctional Service Canada offers many volunteering opportunities:

    • Become a volunteer at the CSC;
    • Contribute to a circle of support and accountability;
    • The Montreal Volunteering Bureau serves, among others, a convict/ex-convict clientele.

    Many member organizations of the ASRSQ need the support of volunteers, either periodically or occasionally. Consult our list of member organizations to find which ones are in your region.

  • Volunteer within a citizen advisory committee

    Members of these committees often visit correctional facilities and meet with offenders, local union representatives and CSC managers and employees. The committees also act as a link to the outside world for the incarcerated population. They play three main roles: counsellors, impartial observers and liaison officers. They participate in the assessment and monitoring of appropriate care delivery, as well as the implementation of programs for offenders by the CSC.
